James Montgomery Flaggs charming cartoon series following the adventures of Kitty Cobb, which had originally been published in newspapers.
This volume includes thirty-one cartoons of Kitty setting off from her home to New York City and finding a job working as a saleswoman in the handkerchief department in an enormous emporium. Her adventures illustrated here include going to the theatre, looking for a new job, and getting married.
Kitty is characterised as the pinnacle of the American Girl, pretty and well dressed though she comes from a humble home.
Collated, complete.
James Montgomery Flagg was a pioneering cartoonist, best remembered today for his 1917 poster of Uncle Sam during World War One.
CONDITION
In the original publishers quarter cloth binding with paper to the boards. Externally, generally smart. Rubbing resulting in a little loss of paper to the extremities. Minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. Some light marks to the boards. Booksellers label to the rear paste down. Dust wrapper is edge worn with a large chip to the rear wrap, and a couple of smaller chips to the head and tail of the spine and to the folds. Large closed tear to the front wrap which has been repaired with tape to the reverse, a couple of smaller tears also tape repaired to the reverse. Wraps are discoloured with some light marks and spots. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean with only a couple of light handling marks.
